Unprepared With a Prepared Gift
Luke 2:1-7 says Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem to be taxed. While there, Mary went into labor and gave birth. Not only did they not plan for this, but the inn could not accommodate them. Therefore, Jesus was made comfortable with what was available; swaddling clothes and a manger.
We know that when the season comes, a pregnant female will give birth no matter the circumstances. That’s evident here. Mary was out of town with no place to stay, no crib, and no baby clothes. Yet and still, she brought forth the gift of God, the Savior of the world.
I’m not sure who, but someone likened giving birth to a baby to giving birth to the gift(s) God places in us. Like a baby, when the season is right, the gift will come forth. However, sometimes we’re guilty of trying to wait for perfect circumstances. We want to have all our ducks in a row with favorable conditions. But, that’s not the way it happens. So, we have to be sensitive to the seasons in our lives and be available and ready for what God wants to do. No matter who we are or what our situation looks like, we can not underestimate the gift(s) we carry. When God says it’s time, ready or not, the gift is coming. Bring forth, and bless the world.
