Gifted, Yet Humble

Luke 2:4-5 says, after Caesar Augustus decreed that all the world should be taxed, Joseph returned to Bethlehem with Mary who was great with child. Previously, Mary had received a promise from the angel saying she would give birth to the Son of God (Luke 1:35). At this point, it was obvious that the promise was about to manifest. Mary knew she carried an awesome gift. Yet, she returned to Bethlehem with Joseph to be taxed, or accounted for. The fact that she was pregnant with the savior of the world did not prevent her from showing humility and submission.

Ladies, we are in a season when women are occupying significant positions. My prayer is that we can be more like Mary and not lose our humility. God has given us the strength to provide a foundation that society stands on. If that foundation is removed, what happens? So, whether we’re homemakers or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, we should never hesitate to honor authority when appropriate. For anyone who disagrees, please consider this: Thousands of years after Mary’s death, she is highly exalted by the largest, wealthiest church in the world. I don’t agree with her being exalted. However, I agree with Luke 14:11, “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” Also, it was while she was with Joseph in Bethlehem to be taxed that she birthed her gift. Humility will lift you up. May we all be gifted yet humble.
