There is Power in Prayer

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; - Romans 12:12

This verse is a part of the instruction for righteous living that Paul spoke to the Romans.  Although it is a fragment, I think it is an appropriate directive for us today.  In spite of all that’s happening we must hold on to hope.  This hope gives us an expectation for better days and greater things.  We find joy in that.  Yet, we must be patient because we do not know when our hope will become reality.  While waiting, we must consistently pray.  I want to focus on prayer.

First, my condolences to the families who tragically lost loved ones due to the riot at the Capitol. My prayers are with them.As I watch the news reports of the sad event, it is frightening to hear that the mob seemed to have more planned. Some had destructive weapons, some had zip ties, and some wore tactical gear. While we are alarmed by what did happen, we must thank God for what did not happen. In addition to the military and law enforcement, that is the power of prayer at work. So, as they continue to speculate about future attacks, including the inauguration, let us continue to pray.We have the power to block and stop evil plots. That mob was able to force their way into one of the most secure buildings in the world.Yet, there is nothing more forceful than the prayer of faith. That is our weapon. The prayers of a righteous few will overcome the evil plans of many.
