Love Through Service
“… And he said unto Him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. – John 21:17
In John 21:15-17, repeatedly Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him. When Peter answered affirmatively, Jesus told Him to feed His sheep. Jesus had proven His love by making the ultimate sacrifice in His crucifixion. Now, Peter had an opportunity to return the love through sacrificing his life another way.
In some form or another, we all have the same opportunity. The Lord has something He wants each of us to do in His kingdom. Accepting the opportunity is an act of love, because, by doing so, we contribute to His mission. It is why He created us. And, what an awesome mission it is. There is honor in being a part of it. Peter had made mistakes. Yet, the Lord respected him, addressed him directly, and expressed His desire to use Him. No doubt, He knew that Peter only needed adequate information and guidance to show himself profitable.
So, no matter what our history has been, we can accept the Lord’s invitation into fellowship and service. All we do for Him can not compare to what He has done for us. We can fulfill our purpose by committing our lives to serve the one who gave His life for us.
