Do Not Forget
Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command thee this day: - Deuteronomy 8:11
According to history, there was a time when our African-American ancestors had to sneak back into the woods to gather and spend time with the most high God. It was risky, because if they were caught the consequences could be painful. Yet, many of them repeatedly took the risk. It was that time with God that gave them strength and encouragement to endure the horrors they faced.
Today, we have the freedom to worship. Although they may not be occupied now, we have beautiful buildings in which to worship. Our great God has been good to us. He has proven himself to be the good shepherd of Psalm 23:1 who provides constant care, protection and provision. As He warned the Israelites, let us not take our blessings for granted and forget Him. It is another Sunday morning; a designated day for believers to gather. Remembering Him allows us to forget our problems. Wherever your sanctuary is, let us enter to worship and leave to walk in obedience.
