The Sacrifice of a Mother
Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. – Exodus 3:10
Exodus 1:7 – 2:10 speaks of the king of Egypt commanding that all male Hebrew babies be killed at birth to prevent their people from increasing in number. Being a Hebrew, Moses’ mother, Jochebed, hid him for three months after he was born. Then, she placed him in an ark that she made and put it by the river’s brink. Pharoah’s daughter found him, and he became her son. Separate from biological family, Moses grew up with the luxuries of Pharoah’s grandson. Yet, as Exodus 3:10 indicates, he was later used by God to free the Hebrews from Egyptian bondage.
Jochebed sacrificed her son, himself, to ensure his safety. As mothers we do what we must for our children’s needs, comforts, safety, or whatever it takes to help them have a good life and be their best. It may seem that we will be left with the void due to the sacrifices made. Yet, good investments have a way of paying off. As a man, Moses became the deliverer for his mother’s people. By faith, we can believe that there will be a return on what we gave up for our children. Even if it is not tangible, just seeing them thrive is good enough.
For every sacrifice you made and continue to make, enjoy your Mother’s Day!
