The Faith of a Mother

… And she answered, It is well. - 2 Kings 4:26

Second Kings 4:8-37 speaks of the Shunammite woman and Elisha. He would visit with the woman and her husband when he was in Shunem. Eventually, the woman and her husband built a chamber onto their house so Elisha would have a place to rest when he came. Because of the kindness she showed him, Elisha wanted to do something for her, however she told him that she did not need him to do anything for her. Elisha really wanted to bless her. After realizing that she had no child and her husband was old, he prophesied that she would have a son at the appointed season. It happened just as he said.

Unfortunately, the child died when he was older. The woman did not cry or complain to others. In fact, she demonstrated faith by saying, “It shall be well” when questioned by her husband. Then, when she reached the vicinity where Elisha was and was questioned by his servant she replied, “It is well”. Elisha was the one who prophesied to her about her son, therefore he represented God. So, she went straight to the source with her problem. She was a great woman who used part of her assets to bless the prophet of God. No doubt, she knew, because of her faithfulness, there had to be a solution. Miraculously, Elisha was able to intercede on her behalf.

As mothers, we should not feel helpless when there is a problem in our children’s lives. With our faith, we can go to God for them. This woman’s son was, literally, resurrected from the dead. If God can do that, what can He not do? Circumstances may seem final, but it is never too late for a miracle. So, when/if our children are in trouble in any way, our prayers and faith can cause God to move on their behalf. Even if they do not believe, you can believe for them.

This Mother’s Day, may you have a blessed assurance that all is well.
