Friends
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. - John 15:15
Different people have different definitions of friendship. Therefore, it is really important that everyone in the relationship shares theirs sooner rather than later. In this verse, Jesus is informing His disciples of their status with Him and why or how they obtained it. Now, the door is open for honest, direct dialogue. Yet, if you read through the chapter, you will see that Jesus continued to instruct them to obey Him. He made it known that, as their friend, He was still in authority.
True friendship is a good basis for any relationship. It should include qualities like respect, trust, and honesty which add to any interaction. It may take time to reach the level of friendship. Then, there are times when connections are preordained of God and can quickly and successfully move from one stage to the next. I think about fifteen years ago social media was introduced to the world. It provides another way to connect. Again, people have different definitions and purposes for social media. Some take it seriously, while others have a profile or account but still prefer in-person interaction.
Whatever the case, friendships are a great asset for anybody. (Proverbs 17:17) It is crucial to express yourself clearly to establish mutual understanding and affirm acceptance. This will help to make the relationship equally beneficial for all involved.
