The Price of Pride
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Proverbs 18:12
Progressively, over the years, America has proudly defied the laws of God. Ultimately, someone who clearly possessed a severe case of arrogance and pride was allowed to take the country’s highest office. So, as of today, January 6, 2021, there is destructive, criminal protests at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.. According to the media, these protests were encouraged by the president, because he claims the recent election, in which he was voted out, was fraudulent. Almost everyone who I have heard speak on the news has expressed their amazement that this type of protesting is happening in America and at the Capitol. For sure, this is a sad day. However, when you allow your pride and arrogance to lead you, your only destination is destruction and/or humiliation.
In the book of Exodus, Pharaoh proudly defied God when Moses told him he must free the Israelites from slavery. If you study the plagues that God performed, you will see that God used something that the Egyptians considered a god in each one. God will use your idols against you and prove that He is God. It is no coincidence that today’s protests are happening in a building where our government convenes. This is a consequence of this country’s perpetual pride. Once again, this is very disheartening. Nobody wins in this situation. Let us pray that it will deescalate and gotten under control, the transition in power will be peaceful going forward, and our government officials, and this country as a whole, will walk humbly before God. It is not that everyone must become a born-again Christian. We all have a God-given right to make our own choices. However, no matter who we are or what our religion is, we can respect the truth that God is God.
