Part of My Story

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. - Philippians 4:13

With the closing of businesses and loss of jobs, many people are trying to find ways to move forward. Some may choose to return to school. I hope to encourage you with part of my testimony. This is a true story and should be taken literally.

I was a college student with other major responsibilities. I could not give all my time to studying. I had to constantly pray and depend on God to help me. I recall a particular incident that happened. I walked into class one night about two minutes early. Most of my classmates were already there and seemed to be frantic and cramming. I did not understand why. I sat in my regular spot and asked a friend who sat next to me, “What’s going on?” He told me they were getting ready for the test. He seemed surprised that I did not know. I, honestly, had no recollection of any test being announced. I had not been irresponsible or lazy. I just did not remember. Needless to say, I was not ready. I had a high average in this specific class and did not want to mess it up. I was sure that I would if I took the test that night. I told my friend that I was not ready. He suggested that I leave class because our instructor was not there yet. I told him that I would just say a quick prayer and ask God for help, which I did. He looked at me as if I were crazy and said, “Well, I hope your connection with Him is better than mine”. A few minutes passed and our instructor was still not there. That was unusual, so I started to feel sure that God was moving in my favor. Eventually, she came in and looked a little embarrassed. She said she had an emergency and would not be able to stay in class, so we would have to take the test another time. My friend immediately looked at me with big eyes as if I had successfully performed a magic trick. Of course, it was not magic. It was my faith in God.

There were other times when God pulled me out of a bind. Sometimes, it was a major financial situation or something small like this case. He was there for me. So, if you are older or someone with other responsibilities and you want or need to start a new career or go back to school, know that God will help you, too.
