God's Timing

… Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word… - Luke 1:38

These were Mary’s words after being informed that she would be overcome and impregnated by the Holy Spirit. She submitted and agreed. I try to live by this verse because it is total surrender. It says, ‘I do not understand everything, it is not what I planned for myself, but I yield to you, Lord’.

In general, society tries to dictate when certain events should happen in our lives. Then, we set our own timeframe for ourselves. We decide when we should get married, when we should have children, when we should start our careers, etc. We place a stigma on others or ourselves if things do not happen when we think they should. However, we must believe and know that God’s plan is so much better than ours. His timing is not ours. What He has planned for one is different than what He plans for another. It is believed that Mary was just a young teenager when the angel informed her of the miracle that she would receive. Then, she went to her cousin, Elizabeth, who was older and barren when she miraculously conceived. So, one woman experienced motherhood in her youth while it did not happen for another until senior maturity. We may never understand God’s reasoning, but we know that everything peacefully comes together when done in His will. Trust, surrender, and let your life flow in His timing.
