Fasting for Others
Is not this the fast that I have chosen?... Is it not to deal they bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? - Isaiah 58:6-7
We are in a season of newness. This is the start of a new year. Just two days ago, a new administration for the White House was inaugurated. Speaking of, I extend my best wishes to our new government. Thank God the ceremony and celebrations were safe. My prayer for our new leaders is God’s guidance, protection, and sustained health.
As for the new year, many of us who are Christian or spiritual often begin with fasting. Typically, when we do so, we pray for God to do something for or within us. In addition to these, another reason to fast is to bless those who are without. Considering our present circumstances, this is the perfect time to fast for that purpose. Millions of people are really struggling right now. The help is needed very much. Many are already doing their part to contribute. Unfortunately, every one is not. Just last night there was a local news report of a landlord or property manager who created a poster board labeled “Wall of Shame”. It was displayed in the property office or lobby and showed pictures and names of tenants who are behind in their rent. I think the person(s) who constructed that board should be ashamed. My point is everyone is not contributing as they should. Therefore, those who have the right heart should definitely do so. That is my challenge to my fellow Christians and believers. As you fast, please donate and/or distribute food and clothing to those in need. We must lend a helping hand if we want God to heal our land.
