Accepting Correction

For when He punishes you, it proves that He loves you. When He whips you it proves you are really His child.

Hebrews 12:6 (The Living Bible)

As we grow in life we learn the right things to do and say. We may even learn so well that we do and say the right things even when it is not heartfelt. Whatever the case, there will be moments that prove who you really are and what is in your heart. One of those times is when you are corrected and/or chastised. How do you respond then? The bible tells us that God corrects those he loves and accepts as His own. Of course, God’s correction is always right and fair. Therefore, the right response to Him is, “Yes, Lord”. However, what about when it comes from another person? Definitely, you should always give respectful attention to someone older and/or in authority. Yet, no matter who it is, think about what is said. Even if it is offensive, identify what may be true and respond accordingly. Remember, God is the potter and we are clay. He is constantly molding and shaping us (if we allow Him to) into who He wants us to be. So, correction and punishment will be a part of the process. If you are in covenant with Him, you have not loss your place in His temple. In fact, it verifies that you are His. Humbly receive correction and you will deliver greater character.
