Hold On
I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in His word do I hope. - Psalm 130:5
Iniquities are inner, unseen sins such as anger or pain we may hold in our hearts. Unless there is an unhealthy blockage, anything in the heart will eventually come out because the heart is a pump. Therefore, if iniquity is not overcome it may lead to ungodly behavior. Of course, ungodly behavior will pull you down.
When in a low place we want change and may be tempted to take matters into our own hands. But note in chapter 130, the psalmist is crying out to God “out of the depths” and appealing to His mercy. As verse 5 states, this is a crucial time to wait on God. It says, “…my soul doth wait…”. The soul is where our emotions are seated. All emotions are natural; however, we cannot allow ourselves to be overcome or controlled by them. With our feelings in check, we must make a decision to wait to hear from the Lord and yield to His word.
So, when we identify iniquity within us or are in a subdued position because of it, know that our God is there for us. In honesty and humility, we can appeal to Him. He will not leave us in that condition but will help us realign with the covenant. (Psalm 16:10) Regardless of what the past may have been, there is hope. Trusting Him will secure the success of our present and future.
