Pushing Through Depression

And He said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. - Mark 14:36

Obviously, we are approaching Easter. During this time we often hear of Jesus' bout with depression in the garden. Have you ever considered that He got depressed even though He knew, ahead of time, what He would have to endure? Mark 10:32-34 denotes just one time that Jesus prophesied what would happen to Him. Yet and still, knowing He would be crucified, in the grave for three days, then resurrected to sit at the right hand of the most high God, the thought of it depressed Him. Fortunately, He immediately yielded to God's will and persevered.

As believers, when we face our troubles, we are not as informed as Jesus was. We do not know all the details or how long the situation will last. Therefore, we should not be so hard on ourselves if/when depression comes. Yet, recognize the strength and peace that comes from submitting to the will of God. The Lord will reveal His purpose for your life and equip you with all you need to fulfill it. No matter how difficult it may seem, make up your mind to press in and obey. It will be worth it.
