Miraculous Covenant Connections
In 1 Kings 17:8-16, there was a famine in Zarephath. A widow woman and her son lived there. She was preparing the last of their food for the two of them. Then, she expected to die. However, God sent the prophet Elijah to her. Elijah told her to make him a cake first then feed her son and herself. He prophesied that if she did it, the ingredients she had left would never run out. She obeyed and it happened as Elijah said. The three of them survived the famine with what appeared to be not enough.
In a situation like this, the natural reaction would be to not share. You would be inclined to take care of your own before sharing with a stranger or outsider. However, God’s ways are not ours. He wants to be first in our lives. He has a way of testing our faith by our treatment of others. It’s important that we discern who is who. Because, obeying God and embracing the people He sends can yield miraculous results.
